Dipper: GPS Area Measure

Measure a distance or route

Use a distance measurement for anything with a length rather than an area: a fence line, a drain, a path, or the walk from the gate to the barn.

Measure on the map

  1. On the map, tap New measurement, then Distance.
  2. Add a point at the start and at every turn, the same way as for an area: move the crosshair and tap Add point, or tap the map if Default point mode is Map tap.
  3. The total distance updates as you go, and every leg shows its length and bearing.
  4. Tap Done to see the result, then Save.

Open or closed

A route is open by default: it ends at its last point. Choose Close route to add the leg back to the start, for example to get the length of fencing around a paddock without measuring its area.

Record it as you travel

To measure the distance you actually walk, ride or drive, use Record a route with GPS instead. See Measure with GPS.

Units

Distances follow Settings → Distance unit. Automatic uses feet and miles where those are the local units and meters and kilometers elsewhere; you can also tap a value on the result or detail page to see it in another unit.
